Phil Spector, one of the most influential producers and innovators of popular music, died on January 16th, 2021 at the age of 81. Phil Spector was born in the Bronx, New York in 1939. He began his career as a musician before famously joining The Teddy Bears, where he released the hit single “To Know Him Is To Love Him.” Throughout his career, Spector’s talent as a producer and songwriter was evident in his production of records, becoming a major influence in the “Wall of Sound” production technique. His record-producing skills enabled him to have a successful career marked by records and albums with the Crystals, Ike & Tina Turner, The Ramones, and The Beatles, among many others. Spector was received numerous awards and honors such as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His accomplishments in music production will continue to be remembered among the industry’s greatest.
