On April 30, 2019, Peter Mayhew, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. At 7' 2”, Peter's iconic height and kind demeanor led to a memorable film career spanning decades. His career began in 1977 when he was cast as Chewbacca in Star Wars. Peter went on to play Chewbacca in three other Star Wars movies as well as several television commercials and other cameo appearances. Peter’s work as Chewbacca connected with fans of all ages, who were drawn to the character’s unique combination of strength, loyalty and friendship. His long-standing appreciation for the character he portrayed was evident in his philanthropic efforts to bring the magic of Star Wars to underserved children through messages of hope. In addition to Star Wars, Peter’s filmography included roles in popular sci-fi films such as Jedi Hunter, Miracle Maker and Sinbad of the Seven Seas. Peter is survived by his wife, Angie, and three children. He has left behind a legacy of an incredible talent and a dedication to making the world a brighter place for future generations.
