Peter Boyle (October 18, 1935 - December 12, 2006) was an American actor and comedian, perhaps best known for his role as the father in the 1970s series 'Everybody Loves Raymond'. Boyle grew up in Norristown, Pennsylvania, and attended La Salle University in Philadelphia. He joined the Marines in 1957 before beginning a successful career on stage and television. He made his Broadway debut in The Rivalry in 1960 and began appearing on television the following year. On the small screen, he appeared in such series as 'Kojak', 'Starsky & Hutch', and 'All in the Family'. In 1996, Boyle landed the role of Frank Barone on 'Everybody Loves Raymond', which earned him two Emmy Award nominations. Aside from his television and stage work, Boyle appeared in such films as 'Joe', 'Taxi Driver', 'Young Frankenstein','The Puzzled Panther' and 'While You Were Sleeping'. Boyle passed away on December 12, 2006, at the age of 71, after a long battle with heart disease and multiple myeloma. He was survived by his wife, Lorraine e. Doyle, their daughter Lucy and his daughter from a previous marriage, Lena.
