Paul Mooney, one of the most influential minds in comedy, died on 2021-05-19 at 79 years of age. Mooney achieved global success through his pioneering style of comedy and writing, particularly through his work on the television show In Living Color, and films such as The Dave Chappelle Show, Raw, and Harlem Nights. He was often referred to by his peers as the Godfather of Black Comedy for his observational wit and piercing social commentary. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1941, Mooney was raised primarily in Oakland, California. Throughout his life, Mooney wrote, performed, and appeared on many television shows and films.
