On June 13th, 2017, Patricia Edwina Victoria Knatchbull, 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma, passed away at the age of 93. Born in London, England in 1924, Patricia was the daughter of the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Louis, and Edwina Ashley. She followed in her family’s footsteps by serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) during WWII. She later married John Knatchbull, 7th Baron Brabourne, and was a mother to their four sons. In 1979, upon the death of her father, Patricia ascended to the title of Countess Mountbatten of Burma, taking up her father’s role as Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight. As Countess, Patricia served as an ambassador for many charities and organizations, including the University of Sussex, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund, and the Lord Mountbatten Hospice in Newport. After a long and fulfilling life of service, Patricia will be remembered as a devoted philanthropist and a loving mother.
