On November 30, 1900, Oscar Wilde, famed author and playwright, passed away at the age of 46. Wilde was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1854 and became one of the most revered writers of his generation. His novel, "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and plays such as "The Importance of Being Earnest" were received with widespread critical acclaim. Wilde's works explored concepts such as art for art's sake and aestheticism, which had a lasting influence on the literary and social world. He was well-known for his famed wit and humor, which often enhanced his works. Wilde's life was not without personal hardship, however. His struggles with his sexuality, and criminal conviction, tarnished his reputation in the late Victorian period. Oscar Wilde's work and life will live on in history as an iconic example of literary genius and wit. He has left an indelible mark on the literary world that will remain for years to come.
