De Havilland, Olivia Olivia de Havilland, two-time Academy Award-winning actress, died peacefully in her sleep on July 26, 2020, at age 104. De Havilland was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1916, to British parents. At age 18, she arrived in Hollywood and began her acting career. She landed her first movie role in 1935 and went on to become a renowned movie star with beloved performances in classic films including 1939's "Gone with the Wind" and 1946's "To Each His Own." She also received two Academy Awards, for her performances in 1946's "To Each His Own" and 1949's "The Heiress." Her career spanned more than five decades and included 48 feature films. She was known to be professional, adjacent, and dedicated to her craft. In addition to her acting career, de Havilland is remembered for her courageous stand for actors' rights during the 1940s, which set a precedent for other performers. De Havilland is survived by her daughter, Gisele Galene (de Havilland) Plaschke, granddaughter Karesse Eugenia Plaschke, and great-grandson Warren Plaschke. She will be remembered fondly for her impressive acting career and her contributions to the Hollywood industry.
