It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norma Shearer, the beloved Canadian-American actress, at the age of 80 on June 12, 1983. Shearer was born in Montréal in 1902. After becoming a rising star in the United States film industry, she was featured in many popular MGM films of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. She received five Academy Award nominations throughout her career, winning Best Actress for 1930's The Divorcee. Shearer was renowned for her on-screen beauty and the stylishness of her roles. Her talent and determination allowed her to successfully transition from silent film to the talkies, revolutionizing the Hollywood system of her time. Norma Shearer will be remembered fondly for her groundbreaking contributions to classic films as a Hollywood legend. She will be greatly missed by friends, family, and fans worldwide.
