Ermias Asghedom, known professionally as Nipsey Hussle, passed away on March 31st 2019 at the age of 33. Nipsey was born on August 15, 1985 in Crenshaw, Los Angeles, California. He was a hip hop recording artist, entrepreneur, and community leader. He founded the clothing brand ’The Marathon Clothing’, released numerous mixtapes, and released his debut studio album, Victory Lap, in 2018, for which he was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Rap Album. After his passing, news of Hussle’s death and his music spread worldwide. Through his music, Hussle was able to open up conversations with fans and bring awareness to the struggles of gang violence and systemic racism. He remained an advocate for underprivileged and impoverished communities, hosting free community events and protests to raise awareness. Hussle is survived by his children Kross and Emani, his long-term partner Lauren London, and his brother Samiel Asghedom. In the wake of Nipsey’s passing, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti launched The Nipsey Hussle Fund at The Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative. The Fund will support the city’s work towards creating more jobs, safer streets, and increasing neighborhood investment in Crenshaw and Hyde Park.
