On November 25, 1974, Nicholas Rodney Drake, who touched the hearts of fans around the world with his distinctively gentle folk music, passed away at the age of 26. Nick was born in Rangoon, Burma (now Myanmar), on June 19, 1948. He spent much of his childhood in Warwickshire, England, and studied English Literature at Cambridge. He began writing and recording music in 1967 and released his first studio album, Five Leaves Left, in 1969. Nick was known for his introspective, melancholic lyrics and iconic finger-picking guitar style. His passionate performances and influential blend of folk, jazz, and classical elements inspired generations of musicians, including Norah Jones, Jeff Buckley, and Radiohead. At the time of his death, Nick had released two studio albums, Five Leaves Left and Bryter Layter, and one posthumously released effort, Pink Moon. He will be remembered for his poetic compositions and gentle music, which continue to entertain and inspire listeners to this day.
