Neerja Bhanot, aged 22, passed away on September 5, 1986. Neerja was born in Chandigarh, India and attended Bombay Scott Christian College. Neerja was well known for her bravery and courage as a flight attendant on Pan Am Flight 73 in 1986. Neerja became a national hero in India for sacrificing her life in an effort to save the lives of passengers on board the plane. Her brave and selfless actions during the hijacking of the plane saved the lives of many passengers. Neerja left behind her parents and brother to mourn her loss. She will be remembered for her incredible courage, dignity, and selflessness. Neerja’s legacy lives on in the numerous awards and recognitions bestowed upon her for giving her life to save others.
