Ned Kelly, renowned Australian bush ranger and outlaw, passed away on November 11, 1880, at the age of 25. Born in Victoria, Australia in 1855, Ned was the eldest son of John and Ellen Kelly. He was raised in a life of crime and poverty, which led him to become a bushranger in the late 1870s. In 1878, Ned and his younger brother Dan stole horses in Jerilderie and were convicted of receiving, endorsing, and aiding in the crime. As punishment, Ned was sentenced to three years of prison. Despite his criminal record, Ned became a folk hero in some circles for his attempts to defend his family. On April 15, 1880, the Kelly gang was involved in the shootout at Glenrowan Inn, and Ned was captured and arrested. After being found guilty of murder, Ned was hanged at the Melbourne Gaol on November 11, 1880. At 25 years old, he passed away with a legacy that still sparks debate.
