Muhammad Iqbal passed away on April 21, 1938 at the age of 60. He will be remembered as a renowned poet, lawyer, and philosopher. Iqbal is best known for his immense influence on the politics and culture of South Asia during the 20th century. He helped shape the movement for an independent Muslim state in the subcontinent through his writings and speeches. His works include the masterpiece collections of poetry Asrar-e-Khudi, Zarb-e-Kaleem and Javed Nama. As a philosopher, Iqbal is renowned for his idea of Tasawwuf, a form of Islamic philosophy. His works have been translated into many languages and his teachings form the foundation for many modern Islamic schools. He was fondly nicknamed “The Poet of the East” by those familiar with his work. His legacy will live on through his writings, speeches, and deep philosophical thought.
