On September 11, 1948, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, passed away at the age of 71. Mr. Jinnah was the first Governor-General of Pakistan and the leader of the All-India Muslim League which was responsible for the creation of the state of Pakistan in 1947. He also represented the Muslim minority in the Indian Subcontinent in the fight for independence from Britain. Mr. Jinnah was born in 1876 in Karachi, British India and went on to become a lawyer and politician. He served as President of the Muslim League from 1913 to 1947 and worked to promote the League's demands and visions for a separate Muslim nation. After independence was achieved, Mr. Jinnah was sworn in as the first Governor-General of Pakistan. While in office, he worked to lay the founding principles of modern-day Pakistan and dealt with the numerous challenges that faced the newly created nation. Mr. Jinnah died in Karachi, surrounded by his family members. The country of Pakistan mourns the loss of its founder and strives to honor his legacy.
