Mike Wallace, legendary broadcast journalist and renowned interviewer, died on April 7th, 2012 surrounded by family at the age of 93. Wallace was born to Russian immigrants in Brookline, MA on May 9th, 1918. He hosted a radio show at age 19, and went on to become the face of “60 Minutes”, a show he was on for more than four decades. During his career, Wallace won 21 Emmy awards and 5 Peabody awards for his outstanding work, and he was inducted into both the Television Hall of Fame and the Radio Hall of Fame. In addition to his broadcast credentials, Wallace served his country by serving during World War II in the US Navy as a communications officer in the Pacific. He also wrote a total of 19 books during his life, and was an active philanthropist who gave generously to numerous charities. Wallace leaves behind a shining example of hard work, honesty and integrity that will live on in the memories of those he touched. He will be deeply missed by friends, family, and colleagues alike.
