On 2022-05-07, country music legend Mickey Gilley passed away at the age of 86. Born on March 9, 1936 in Ferriday, Louisiana, Mickey began singing at a young age, playing in his brothers’ band. After the release of his breakthrough single “Room Full of Roses” in 1974, Mickey’s career was launched, yielding over 80 charting singles, many of which reached the Billboard Top 10. His countless awards include several gold and platinum albums, with five No. 1 hits on the Billboard country chart and five awards from the Academy of Country Music. During his career, Mickey was as known for his philanthropy in and around his hometown as his music. He opened The Gilley’s Club, a popular honky-tonk dance hall, and founded The Gilley’s Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports children’s health and education. His love for music, business, and philanthropy have impacted generations. Mickey is survived by two sons, a daughter, two brothers, three sisters, seven grandchildren, and a great-grandson. His legacy will live on in the hearts of family, friends, and fans alike.
