French chef and restaurateur Michel Roux passed away on March 11th 2020 at the age of 78. He was well known for launching Le Gavroche in 1967, the first ever 3 Michelin starred restaurant in London. His influence over the culinary world spanned over five decades, and he was widely acclaimed for his Francophile cooking, including working as Head Chef at the renowned Waterside Inn for almost 25 years. He succeeded his father and uncle at Le Gavroche, and was awarded OBE in 2002, followed by the prestigious French Legion d’Honneur in 2009. He authored several cookbooks and appeared in a variety of television shows, helping to bring French and Italian flavours - among other cuisines - to the forefront of the British public’s consciousness. Roux is survived by his four children, and his widow Robyn.
