Obituary for Michael Landon (1936-1991) Michael Landon, a beloved actor and producer, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 1991. He was 54 years old. Landon was best known for his roles in "Bonanza," "Little House on the Prairie," and "Highway to Heaven." Born Eugene Maurice Orowitz, Landon had a successful career in film and television that spanned over four decades. He attained stardom through his role as Little Joe Cartwright on "Bonanza," which ran from 1959–1973. He also appeared in "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" (1957), "Goonies" (1958), and "Us" (1977). Landon became an instrumental producer and director of three series: "Bonanza," "Little House on the Prairie," and "Highway to Heaven." He also wrote several television films. Landon is survived by his wife, Lynn Noe, and their four children: Leslie, Mark, Josh, and Michael Jr. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dodie Levy-Fraser. He was an advocate on many issues, but was principally outspoken on behalf of animal rights. He was a major fundraiser for organizations such as Los Angeles County Animal Shelter and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Although he is gone too soon, Landon's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and fans forever.
