Max Mosley, former president of the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), has passed away on 2021-05-23 00:00:00 UTC, at the age of 81. The son of Sir Oswald Mosley - who was leader of the British Union of Fascists - and Diana Mitford, Mosley was born in London in 1940. He grew up in Hampstead and went on to study at Oxford and Harvard. Mosley began his career as a lawyer in 1960, and later started a private practice in 1968. He later abandoned his career as a solicitor and pursued a career in motorsport. In 1993, he was elected as the president of the FIA. Over the course of his 16-years in this role, Mosley reformed international motorsport regulations in several ways, becoming one of the most prolific and respected figures in the motorsport world. In 2009, Mosley received worldwide attention after a British newspaper published details of what appeared to be videotaped sex parties involving him. He resigned from his post at the FIA and underwent a trial which he won. Following his retirement, Mosley continued to work as a safety advocate for motorsport, becoming an important advocate for the awareness of safety in the industry until his death. He was widely respected by both his peers and his critics for his unwavering commitment to the industry he dedicated his life to. Mosley will be remembered by many as a trailblazer in the world of motorsport.
