Maurice Gibb, the English singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, died on 2003-01-12 at age 53. He is remembered for his contributions to the music world, both as a solo artist and as a member of the popular British musical group, the Bee Gees. Maurice began his music career at a young age, performing with his brothers Barry and Robin in local clubs and eventually forming the trio, The Bee Gees, in 1958. Maurice wrote and co-wrote many of the group's hits collectively, including chart topping songs such as "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever". He was known within the group for being the one to come up with the melodies. The Bee Gees went on to become one of the most successful musical acts of all time. Maurice continued his success as a solo artist throughout the 1970s with a series of successful folk-rock albums. He was also an accomplished songwriter and arranger, who co-wrote the hit single "Love Is Thicker Than Water" with his brother, Andy Gibb. Maurice Gibb is survived by his wife, his three children, and his brothers. His legacy of ambition, creativity, and exceptional music will continue to live on.
