Marlon Brando, a widely acclaimed actor, filmmaker, and activist, passed away on July 1, 2004, at the age of 80 in Los Angeles, California. He rose to prominence when he starred in "A Streetcar Named Desire" in 1951, for which he won his first Academy Award for Best Actor. Throughout his career, he was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning a second award for Best Actor in 1973 for the film "The Godfather". Brando's career spanned more than five decades, and he went on to appear in classic films such as "The Wild One" (1953), "On the Waterfront" (1954), and "Apocalypse Now" (1979). He also shifted his focus to directing, producing, and writing, and starred in several memorable movies and television shows, including "The Freshman" (1975), "The Missouri Breaks" (1976), and "The Score" (2001). Brando had a lifelong commitment to civil rights, working with the American Indian Movement and campaigning against racism and poverty. He also created several environmental organizations and fought fiercely for immigrants' rights. He is survived by his sons, Miko Brando and Christian Brando, and daughters Rebecca Brando and Cheyenne Brando. He will be remembered for his brilliance as an artist and his lifelong activism.
