On December 18th, 2008, Mark Felt, a celebrated American FBI official, passed away at the age of 95. Mark Felt was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on August 17th, 1913. As a youth, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of Idaho and a law degree from George Washington University. After college, Felt served in the United States Navy for four years during World War II before joining the FBI's Minneapolis field office. After several promotions, he was promoted to Deputy Associate Director of the FBI in charges of investigations into organized crime and intelligence. Felt rose to the prominent position of Associate Director in 1972, making him the Bureau's number two official. Felt retired from the FBI in 1973. He worked as an insurance broker for several years before moving to Santa Rosa, California for his retirement years. His most well-known achievement came in 2005 when he revealed to the public that he was "Deep Throat," the secret Watergate informant whose secret conversations with Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward brought down the presidency of Richard Nixon. Mark Felt lived to the age of 95. He is survived by his two children. He will be remembered for his service in the FBI and his contribution to the downfall of the Nixon presidency.
