Marie Fredriksson, the Swedish singer-songwriter and poet, died on December 9, 2019 at the age of sixty-one. Fredriksson achieved international fame as the lead singer and co-founder of the pop duo Roxette, along with Per Gessle. The duo achieved worldwide success with their albums Look Sharp!, Joyride, and Crash! Boom! Bang!, as well as the singles "It Must Have Been Love", "Listen to Your Heart", and "The Look". Outside of Roxette, Fredriksson pursued a solo career, releasing ten solo albums between 1984 and 2018. Her 2003 album Vise Vindar was the first album to debut at number one on the Swedish music chart and won the 2004 Rockbjörnen Award for Best Female Artist. In 2002, Fredriksson was diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent radiation therapy. Despite her battle with cancer and other health issues, she continued to record and tour until her death. She is survived by her husband of thirty-four years, Mikael Bolyos, her children, Josefin and Oscar, and her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, fans, and the music industry.
