Luis Buñuel (1900-1983), the world-renowned Spanish-born filmmaker, passed away on July 29, 1983, at the age of 83. Buñuel was a masterful director whose career spanned decades. He was noted for his unexpected and surreal plot twists as well as his subversive themes, which marked his films as some of the greatest and most popular of all time. His hallmark works included masterpieces such as L'Age d'Or and the iconic Un Chien Andalou, both from the 1930s. Other notable films he wrote and directed throughout his lifetime included El ángel exterminador and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie from the 1960s and 1970s. Even after his death, Buñuel's films continue to be lauded as works of genius, and he is remembered as one of the most significant auteurs of the twentieth century.
