Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, an internationally renowned architect, passed away on August 17, 1969 at the age of 83. He was born in Aachen, Germany, in 1886 and first began his career in architecture in his home country. Mies van der Rohe was a major proponent of modern architecture and transitioned much of the international architecture world away fromhistoricist styles to a modern and minimalist aesthetic. He is renowned for designing hallmark structures such as the Seagram Building in New York City and the Barcelona Pavilion in Spain. Throughout his lifetime, he designed many notable buildings, towers, and sculptures across the world, but most notably in the United States and Germany. Mies van der Rohe's enduring legacy will remain in the modern architecture and design world forever. He will be dearly missed by friends, family, and admirers.
