Lucky Phillip Dube, successful South African singer and songwriter, passed away on Oct. 18, 2007 at age 43. The nine-time South African Music Award recipient rose to fame for being a proponent of reggae music in South Africa; he often incorporated his native township sounds into his work, reflecting his lifelong commitment to his musical roots. Dube released more than 20 albums throughout his career, with the album “Victim of the System” being among his best-selling. In the early 2000s, Dube had begun to grow into international stardom, which was cut short by his death from unknown circumstances. Lucky Dube’s legacy will forever live on in his music. A devoted father, husband, and musical artist, he leaves behind a vast following of fans across the world who were inspired by his work and spirit.
