On August 24, 1978, the world was saddened to lose the beloved musician and trumpet player, Louis Prima. Born on December 7, 1910 in New Orleans, Louis found his musical calling at the age of 15 when he began to play the trumpet. Purely self-taught, he soon began performing with both swing and jazz bands. Louis made a name for himself when his act with singer Keely Smith began to gain notoriety in the 1950s. With his dynamic personality, and upbeat classics such as “Sing,Sing, Sing”, “Just a Gigolo” and “Oh Marie”, he won the hearts of fans around the world. Throughout his career, Louis received several awards for his music, including the National Medal of Arts presented to him in 1995. Louis passed away at the age of 67, leaving behind a legacy of musical innovation and an everlasting love of life. He will be remembered for generations to come.
