Dobbs left CNN in 1999 and joined CNBC as the network's own business news anchor. He then returned to CNN in 2000 with his new show, "Lou Dobbs Tonight," which focused on the economy, politics, and current events. The show was a huge success and made Dobbs one of the most recognizable faces in television news. In addition to his career in television, Dobbs was also a successful author, with several books published on business and political topics. He was known for his outspoken and sometimes controversial views on topics such as immigration and trade. Dobbs retired from CNN in 2009 and went on to host a syndicated radio show, "The Lou Dobbs Financial Report," until 2022. He also made regular appearances as a commentator on various news programs.
