The world of music mourns the loss of Little Richard, the groundbreaking singer, songwriter, and musician, who passed away on May 9th, 2020 at age 87. Little Richard, born Richard Wayne Penniman, was born in Georgia on December 5th, 1932. He began performing as a child and singing gospel music with his family. At the age of 17, he recorded his first single, "Every Hour", and went on to become of one of the early founders of rock and roll genre. His well-known singles include "Tutti Frutti" (1956) and "Long Tall Sally" (1957). His sound influenced generations of musicians and his wild antics on stage inspired many. In 1986, he was one of the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1993, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys. In addition to his musical achievements, Little Richard often contributed to the fight for civil rights, including donating his time at religious and racial unity rallies. He will be remembered and honored by fans, family, and friends around the world.
