It is with great sadness that we report the death of singer, rapper, and songwriter Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, who passed away on April 25, 2002 at the age of 30. She was best known as a member of the R&B girl group TLC, where her iconic and outspoken personality made her an instant star in the music industry. Producing and co-writing many of their platinum-selling albums and singles, these successes afforded her the freedom to pursue a solo career and proved her tremendous talent and creativity. She had an incomparable energy that extended beyond music and into other areas: she was an actress, a philanthropist, and even a member of a yoga commune in Honduras. Gasoline and a match were sadly the tools behind her premature death. Her star shone too bright and too soon, but her music and her message live on, inspiring and entertaining generations of people around the world.
Life is so beautiful that death has fallen in love with it, a jealous, possessive love that grabs at what it can. But life leaps over oblivion lightly, losing only a thing or two of no importance, and gloom is just a passing shadow of a cloud. Yann Martel
