Linda Eastman McCartney, music and photography icon, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 1998 at the age of 56. She is survived by her beloved husband, Paul McCartney, daughters Mary McCartney and Stella McCartney, and her son, James McCartney. Linda was born to Scott and Louise Eastman in Scarsdale, New York, in1941. She was an American photographer, musician, and animal activist. She attended college at the University of Arizona and pursued a successful music career as a member of Wings, the Grammy-winning band led by her husband, Paul McCartney. In 1969, Linda and Paul embarked on their musical journey, collaborating on numerous albums, including Band On The Run, and the Emmy Award-winning Concert for the People of Kampuchea in 1979. During her career, she also released solo albums, such as Seaside Woman and Wide Prairie. Her lifelong passion for photography and animals compelled her to found the Linda McCartney's Sixties: Portrait of an Era, a book featuring photos of some of the twentieth century's most iconic musicians, as well as her animal-rights organization, Linda McCartney's Animal Rights Crusade in 1991. She will be remembered by all who knew her as an inspiring musical pioneer and animal-rights advocate. Her memory lives on in her works of art, in the lives of those she loved, and in the hearts of those she inspired.
