It is with deep sadness that today we mourn the passing of Leona Mindy Rosenthal Helmsley (July 4, 1920 – August 20, 2007). A lifelong New Yorker and businesswoman, Leona Helmsley ran one of the most successful real estate empires in the United States. Born in Marbletown, New York, Leona helped run her father's business from an early age and went on to build one of the city’s largest real estate portfolios. Due to her business savvy and strong leadership she was named one of the most powerful women in business by Fortune Magazine in 1990. Leona and her husband, Harry B. Helmsley, are remembered for their legal, philanthropic, and charitable endeavors throughout New York City and beyond. Notable investments include the Empire State Building and the Helmsley Building, which are landmark attractions and remain recognizable today. Leona Helmsley is survived by her granddaughter, two grandsons, and her extended family of employees and business associates. She will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life.
