On June 19, 1986, former college basketball star Len Bias passed away at the age of 22. Len was born in Landover, Maryland, and was an outstanding basketball player from an early age. He was a two-time ACC Player of the Year, leading the University of Maryland to two ACC titles in three years. He was also the first-ever player from the ACC to be awarded the Naismith Player of the Year in 1986. Bias was chosen by the Boston Celtics as the second overall pick in the 1986 NBA draft. As a mark of respect for Bias' abilities and successes, the Celtics retired his jersey number, #30. Bias' legacy continues to live on at the University of Maryland, where his jersey number is also retired. He remains a figure of inspiration to young athletes. His passing is mourned by friends and fans alike.
