It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lee Marvin, an iconic American actor, on August 29, 1987 at the age of 63. Lee Marvin was born on February 19, 1924 in New York City. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Second World War, and his service earned him a Purple Heart. Following his military service he pursued a career in acting. Marvin was best known for his roles in such classic films as Dirty Dozen, Cat Ballou, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and of course the epic western Paint Your Wagon, as well as television roles in Kung Fu, M*A*S*H and more. Marvin won an Academy Award for best actor in 1967 for his outstanding performance in the cult classic, The Killers. He is survived by his son, Christopher, and daughter, Courtenay. Lee Marvin will be remembered for his unique and powerful performances that were always entertaining and never failed to capture the hearts of audiences around the world.
