Lee Iacocca, former President of Ford Motors and automotive industry icon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2019 at the age of 94. Born October 15th, 1924 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Lee Iacocca was the son of Italian immigrants. He graduated with a degree in industrial engineering from Princeton University and was hired by Ford Motor Company in 1946. He would rise to oversee many of the company's divisions before becoming president in 1970. It was during his time as president that Iacocca famously led the company’s “Turnaround” efforts, rescuing Ford from financial failure and returning the company to profitability. Iacocca’s effort with the Ford Mustang earned him a place in the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2002. Following his retirement from Ford, he became an author and spokesman, sharing a personal story of business success. His 1984 memoir “Iacocca: An Autobiography” remained a bestseller for many years. Today, Iacocca is remembered as an automotive industry leader and icon whose innovations helped shape the American auto industry, and whose legacy will not be forgotten. He is preceded in death by his first wife Mary McCleary, and is survived by his second wife Peggy Johnson.
