Lauri Törni, a Finnish soldier and national hero, passed away on October 18th, 1965. Born on May 27th, 1919, he was only 46 years old at the time of his death. Törni was an officer in the Finnish military during World War II, where he was decorated with medals and recognised as a war hero. He also fought in the Continental War alongside German forces. After the war, he moved to the United States where he took on the name Larry Thorne and worked as a downhill skier and as a weightlifter. In 1970, he enrolled in the United States Army and received a commission as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served with distinction in the Vietnam War until he disappeared in 1965. His body was found in 1989. His legacy will live on as a reminder of Finland's strength and perseverance in the face of adversity. He was a true patriot and will be dearly missed.
