Larry Flynt (1942 - 2021), an American publisher and the president of Larry Flynt Publications, passed away on February 10, 2021 at age 78. Flynt started out working in his father's bar in Kentucky at a young age, and later became a business partner in bars and nightclubs in Ohio. After successfully managing several businesses, Flynt decided to invest his money in the adult-entertainment industry and in 1974 founded Hustler Magazine. Flynt made a name for himself and Hustler by using controversial subject matter and images, which were often the subject of legal action. His outspoken opinions on sexual topics made him an advocate for free speech and sexual expression, and he became a defender of civil rights. He was a well known public figure who was involved in numerous court cases and publicized trials, receiving both criticism and acclaim for his stances on issues ranging from pornography to politics. Flynt received numerous awards in his lifetime, and was credited with inspiring the 1996 movie The People vs. Larry Flynt which starred Woody Harrelson. He left behind a lasting impression on American culture due to his tireless efforts to challenge censorship and fight for his beliefs.
