Kurt Donald Cobain, lead singer, guitar player and songwriter of the iconic grunge band Nirvana, passed away on April 5, 1994. He was 27 years old. Born on February 20, 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington, Kurt was a gifted musician and artist. He spent his childhood in Aberdeen, where he wrote his earliest songs and taught himself to play guitar. In 1987, Kurt formed Nirvana, with his high school friend Krist Novoselir and drummer Dave Grohl. Nirvana's albums Nevermind and In Utero are now considered classics of the grunge genre. Kurt Cobain was famously anti-establishment and was renowned for his unconventional style.
