Kurt Donald Cobain, lead singer, guitar player and songwriter of the iconic grunge band Nirvana, passed away on April 5, 1994. He was 27 years old. Born on February 20, 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington, Kurt was a gifted musician and artist. He spent his childhood in Aberdeen, where he wrote his earliest songs and taught himself to play guitar. In 1987, Kurt formed Nirvana, with his high school friend Krist Novoselir and drummer Dave Grohl. The band went on to international success and a string of hits, including "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Lithium". Nirvana's albums Nevermind and In Utero are now considered classics of the grunge genre. Kurt Cobain was famously anti-establishment and was renowned for his unconventional style. He struggled with fame, and later in life he suffered from chronic depression, heavy drug use and ill health. Kurt's death shocked and saddened fans worldwide, and people across the globe mourned his loss. Kurt Cobain is survived by his wife, Courtney Love, and their daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. He will be remembered as one of the most influential and talented musicians of his time.
