Well-known South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk passed away on Thursday, 2020-12-11 00:00:00 UTC, at the age of 59. Kim had a successful career over 30 years, making films with profound messages that resonated internationally. Born in Bonghwa, South Korea in 1960, Kim first earned recognition with his 1996 crime drama, "Crocodile". It was his 2003 film, "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring", that earned him international attention, as it won Best Cinematography at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. In addition to numerous other awards and accolades over his career, Kim earned Best Director at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival with his film "Pieta". Kim's work dealt with themes of violence, abuse, and revenge, as well as social issues and the human condition. Kim is well-remembered for his body of work, having directed, written, edited, and produced over twenty feature films during his lifetime. His last work, "Romance", was released last year. He is survived by his many fans around the world.
