Kim Il-sung, leader of North Korea for 46 years, passed away on July 8th, 1994 at the age of 82. He is widely regarded as a major figure in the foundation and development of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) since Sept 9th 1948. He is survived by his two sons, Kim Jong-il and Kim Pyong-il, and several grandchildren. The Korean Workers’ Party conferred upon him the title of Eternal President of the Republic, which recognizes his lifetime of service to the country and its people. He was responsible for the development of the DPRK from a war-torn nation to a global industrial and political power. Kim Il-sung was recognized domestically and internationally for his numerous achievements, including forming the Juche ideology, reviving the country’s culture and traditions and the expansion of the economy. This includes developing expanding public attributes such as the Paektu Cultural Exchange, which promotes a multi-national Korean community. The legacy of Kim Il-sung continues to cause inspiration and strength in the nation he helped build and revitalize.
