Ken Norton, a former world heavyweight champion boxer, passed away on September 18, 2013 at the age of 70. Over the course of his career he competed in 42 fights, with 33 wins, 7 losses, and 1 draw. Norton made his professional debut in 1967, knocking out Bob Walker in the first round. After making a steady climb through the rankings he was crowned the world heavyweight champion in 1978, when he defeated Muhammed Ali in a split decision. Norton also had notable fights with Larry Holmes, George Foreman, and Gerry Cooney. Norton left boxing in 1981, and went on to success in acting and business. He also ran in the 2000 California United States Senate election, receiving nearly 600,000 votes. Away from the ring, Norton was widely known for his passion and philanthropy. He actively supported charitable causes in his community. Ken Norton leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans.
