Kasturba Gandhi (1869-1944) passed away on February 22, 1944 at the age of 74. She was born to Gokuladas Kapadia and Vrajkunwerba Kapadia in Porbandar, Gujarat. She was married to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, more commonly known as Mahatma Gandhi, in 1882 when he was only 13 years old. Kasturba Gandhi is remembered for her involvement in Indian independence, particularly as an advocate for civil rights. Through her husband's leadership of the movement, she was part of India during its transition to independence. Kasturba also played an invaluable role in establishing the Sabarmati Ashram at Ahmedabad and took charge of its day-to-day operations. Her commitment to education and public health also benefited countless people. She is survived by her two sons, Harilal Gandhi and Manilal Gandhi, and daughter Manu Gandhi.
