Karl Popper, an Austrian-British philosopher, passed away at the age of 92 on September 17, 1994. He is best known for his critical rationalism, scientific philosophy, and works on the philosophy of science, such as his now classic work The Logic of Scientific Discovery. His revolutionary idea of falsifiability held that scientific theories cannot be proven, but instead must be falsifiable in order to be called scientific. This popularized the usage of the term in other scientific fields, often serving as the basis for scientific theories and practices. Considered a proponent of modern empiricism, Popper is also renowned for his paradigm of critical rationalism. This asserted that a scientific theory should be open for review and be phrased as hypotheses that are assumed to be reasonably valid without being proved or disproved. Popper is credited with influencing thinkers from various backgrounds, including science, economics, politics, and humanities. He was also awarded numerous honors, including the Order of Merit, and the Kyoto Prize for Arts and Philosophy in 1989. Karl Popper will be remembered for his profound contributions to philosophy, science, and academia.
