Karen Blanche Black (née Ziegler) died on August 8th, 2013, at the age of 74. Born in Park Ridge, Illinois on July 1, 1939, she had a long and accomplished career as an actress, singer, songwriter, and screenwriter. Black is best remembered for her roles in Five Easy Pieces (1970), The Great Gatsby (1974), and Fugitive Family (1980), as well as many other motion pictures and plays. She went on to win three Golden Globe awards, resulting from performances in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean (1982), Nashville (1975), and The Wedding Party (1969). Karen was noted in the two-part ABC miniseries, Sadat (1983), for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her role as “Marilyn Sadat.” The actress was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in late 2019 for her contribution to the entertainment industry. Karen Black is mourned by her two sons, Hunter and Nico Jordan Zane, and her husband, Stephen Eckelberry.
