On July 16th, 2014 at the age of 70, blues rock musician Johnny Winter passed away. Beginning his musical career in the 1960s, Winter amazed crowds with his lightning fingerstyle and slide guitar playing. He gained international recognition and acclaim when he signed with Columbia Records in 1969, which produced several of his top hits, such as "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" and "Johnny B. Goode" and album "Johnny Winter And". In 1989, Winter was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame, and in 2003 he was the first white blues musician to be inducted into the International Press Music Hall of Fame. In his career, he also received six Grammy Award nominations, two of which were for his albums "I'm A Bluesman" and "Step Back". Along with his own successful career, Winter produced religious albums by The Voices of Jubilation, Muddy Waters' Grammy-winning "Hard Again" album and Stevie Ray Vaughn's final record "Family Style". Long regarded as one of the most influential blues-rock guitarists of all time, Johnny Winter will be remembered for his passion and dedication to the blues. He will be fondly remembered by all those whose lives were touched by his music.
