John Warner, a notable public servant and statesman who served the United States in politics and business for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on 2021-05-25 00:00:00 UTC at the age of 94. He worked in the United States Navy, and rose to the rank of Secretary of the Navy, followed by Secretary of Defense. He was a five-term Republican Senator from Virginia, during which time he served on key committees such as the judiciary and arms control, and was a champion of the civil rights movement. He was Chairman and CEO of the Warner Companies, now part of Time Warner Corporation, and Chairman of the International Advisory Council at Credit Suisse First Boston. After his retirement, John undertook a number of public interest projects and was a strong believer in the power of public service. John was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Taylor, and is survived by his daughter, Mary Rachel, his sons, John III and Mark, and eight grandchildren.
