The world mourns the death of General of the Armies John J. Pershing, who passed away on July 15, 1948 at the age of 87 in Washington, DC. General Pershing is remembered for his distinguished career and service in the US Military. He was the highest ranking military officer in the country's history, holding the title of General of the Armies of the United States. He was known as the "Black Jack" for his commanding role during World War I. He led the American Expeditionary Force from 1917 to 1919 and had numerous decorations for his bravery and service, including the Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Army Distinguished Service Medal, and Medal of Honor, among others. General Pershing's legacy will be remembered and honored for generations to come. He leaves behind a lasting imprint on the US Military and a heroic legacy that will endure forever.
