John Ford, a celebrated Hollywood filmmaker who earned multiple Academy Awards during his career, passed away on August 31st, 1973 at 79 years old. He began his illustrious career as a movie-maker in the early 1920s and worked his way up to become one of the most well-known directors in the industry. He directed numerous iconic films, receiving four Academy Awards for Best Director over the course of his life for 'The Informer' (1935), 'The Grapes of Wrath' (1940), 'How Green Was My Valley' (1941), and 'The Quiet Man' (1952). In addition to his impressive directing films, Ford also wrote screenplays for several of his films, and acted in twelve of his own films. His influence on cinema can still be seen today, with his groundbreaking techniques of framing, montage and scene construction. John Ford is survived by his wife Mary, his two sons, and his daughter Barbara. He will be greatly missed by his family and by all those who admired his brilliant body of work.
