Joel Schumacher, eminent filmmaker, died on the 22nd of June 2020 at the age of 80. Born in New York City in 1939, Schumacher began his career as costume designer in the 1970s. In 1976, he made his directing and screenwriting debut with "Car Wash." His interest in fashion was reflected in his work with films such as "St. Elmo’s Fire," "The Lost Boys," "Falling Down," and "Flatliners." Schumacher wrote the screenplays for the John Grisham adaptations, "The Client" and "A Time to Kill," and directed D.C. Comics adaptations such as "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin." He also directed Jim Carrey in "The Number 23" and Sandra Bullock in the Oscar awarded "The Blind Side." His filmography includes a wide variety of stories and genres, from star-studded blockbusters to independent productions. Gifted and successful, his talents were celebrated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Red Cross, and the Human Rights Campaign, among others. He was recognized as a modern master of cinema by the Beijing International Film Festival.
