With profound sadness, the family of Joe Diffie announce his passing on March 29, 2020 at age 61. Joe was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on December 28, 1958. He started out as a songwriter, penning hits for fellow country icon, Ricky Van Shelton, before releasing a string of 12 top ten singles in the early '90s. He scored five number one hits including, "If the Devil Danced (in Empty Pockets)", "Third Rock From the Sun," "Pickup Man," "Bigger Than the Beatles," and "John Deere Green". Joe was awarded a Grammy for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for his duet with George Jones and Tammy Wynette, "Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys." He was also named Country Music Association's Touring Artist of the Year in 1994. His music was admired by fans around the world and his talent influenced a generation of great country music performers. Joe was a devoted husband and father and a generous, kind, and passionate man. He is survived by his wife Tara and his childrenJesse, Carly, and Julie. Joe's family request that any memorial contributions be made to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, www.v.org. Joe Diffie will be remembered and deeply missed.
